Samsung partners with Zigbang to launch a unique UWB-based smart door lock

Samsung has launched the world’s first UWB-based smart door lock. Developed in collaboration with Zigbang, the gadget is unlocked by simply standing in front of the front door. Typically, smart door locks require you to put your phone on an NFC chip or use a smartphone app. Ultra-wideband (UWB) technology uses radio waves such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to communicate over short distances, while high frequency bands provide accurate distance measurement and signal direction.
Other benefits of UWB include increased protection against hackers due to its short range. The tool is activated using a digital family key added to the smartphone’s Samsung Wallet. Other features of the lock include the ability to notify family members who open the door via the Zigbang app. Also, if you lose your phone, you can use the Samsung Find My Phone tool to disable the digital home key to prevent intruders from breaking into your home.
Samsung has confirmed that UWB-enabled Galaxy Fold 4 and S22 Ultra Plus owners will be able to use Samsung Pay via Zigbang smart locks. It is not known how much the Zigbang SHP-R80 UWB digital key door lock will cost in South Korea. It is also unknown when the feature will arrive in other markets such as North America and Europe.
